Pivots
R1 and S1 are the first resistance and first support levels in a pivot ladder, sitting just above and below the central pivot. They are the nearest classic pivot levels where price often reacts first.
R1 (resistance 1) and S1 (support 1) are the first levels on either side of the central pivot in a floor-pivot ladder. R1 sits just above the pivot as the nearest resistance, and S1 just below as the nearest support, with R2/R3 and S2/S3 extending further out.
Because they are closest to the pivot, R1 and S1 are often the first zones price tests after the open, which makes them practical reference points for intraday MCX and COMEX traders framing early reactions, stops, and first targets.
These labels describe location, not behavior. Price approaching R1 or S1 raises a question about whether the level holds or breaks; it does not promise either. The level is read alongside CPR position, confluence, and event timing before it earns conviction.
